Adopt me at Conway AWU

ADOPTION PROCEDURES
CONWAY ANIMAL WELFARE UNIT

Applicants who rent will need verification by their landlord that the animal may be kept on the premises before an animal can be placed in their home.

The adoption fee for most animals is $50.00.  Dogs will be heart-worm tested, DHLPP and Bordetella. Cats will be tested and vaccinated for Feline Leukemia and FVRCPC. This fee also includes spay/neuter, rabies and microchip.Arkansas Law states that all animals adopted from an Animal Shelter must be Spayed or Neutered.

In the event an animal turns out to be unsuitable for the home in which it has been placed, the new owners should return the animal to Conway Animal Welfare Unit with a written explanation of the problem. There will be no refund of fees.

All strays coming into the shelter are held for five days to see if the original owner reclaims it, before it is available to be adopted.

Hey there my name is Auggie and I was surrendered by my owner although I'm not sure why....guess I may never know. I'm a neutered male Australian Shep mix, about 2 yrs old and weigh 33 lbs. I love to be petted and more of a people kind of guy over toys. I'm a gentleman when I eat and will step away if you touch my face. I'm a good boy when left alone, housebroken and a little nervous at times....I prefer the quiet environment. I've been here only for a couple of days and I don't mind it much but hope to have my very own home soon! I'm available now! Adopting a dog from the Conway Animal Welfare Unit is a fairly easy process. The first step to adopting an animal is submitting an application. The application allows us to individually consider applicants and helps us to properly match our pets with new owners. We want to make sure that our pets are going to homes that are ready to provide for these pets long-term. Adoptions are $50 and this includes vaccinations, heartworm test, spay/neuter and microchip. As with any shelter animal, health is not guaranteed but we do our best to screen out those animals that are showing obvious signs of illness or disclose that information prior to adoption. All dogs are heartworm tested upon adoption. If you are interested in adopting a dog and you reside OUTSIDE the city limits of Conway and the dog is less than 12 wks old, the cost is $75 which includes a spay/neuter and micropchip. The spay and neuter can only be performed at Vilonia Vet Clinic or Companion Animal Spay/Neuter Clinic. If the animal is less that 12 wks and you live inside the city limits the adoption fee is $25 dollars and you receive a voucher for $120 to use at select clinics for spay/neuter. The other option is that you provide us with proof of a pre-paid spay or neuter at YOUR vet of choice.

Palin here..I am a neutered male Collie about 8 yrs young and I weigh 81 lbs. You have met my sister DeeDee. I too was surrendered by my owner and haven't had the best of care. I'm a sweet boy, well behaved, love people and get along with other dogs and cats too! DeeDee and I are trying to figure out how all this happened...I mean it was so fast. Never did we think we would end up at a shelter. I guess she told you she had heartworms....well I am HEARTWORM POSITIVE too. We both decided there's not point in worrying about it....we have to focus on the future and do our best to find new families. We even talked about being separated and we both understand that may happen. It's alot to ask someone to take on two heartworm positive dogs....we so wish our previous owner had put us on preventative.....but we have to move forward and focus on the future......with a new family.
